This article will analyze the construction of Jewish identity in the German media, exemplified in public broadcasting relating to Jewish life in the federal states of Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein. Our analysis will center around the development of the Jewish communities in the years 2004 and 2005, a period chosen due to the profound changes in Jewish communal structures taking place at this time. Our analysis of how the development of Judaism is constructed in public-service media in the two federal states will demonstrate the ways in which the media help shape the public image of Judaism.
